Another Recruit Pops Up

Scout.com has reported that Terrance Henry has cut his list down to five schools, and Kentucky is among them. The other four schools Henry listed were Arkansas, Kansas, Miami (FL), and Mississippi. Henry is 6'9" and weighs 190 pounds, he plays both the small forward and the power forward positions. Henry rates as a four-star prospect and is listed as one of the top 100 players in his class. He currently ranks 18th among power forwards, and 12th among small forwards.
A lot of people compare him to Perry Stevenson, he is tall and thin, he does very well on defense and gets the ball in the basket when necessary. Henry will be visiting UK this fall, it is believed that he will be attending Midnight Madness along with Rotnei Clarke and other Kentucky recruits. Henry, as a junior, was very capable of putting up double-doubles and even triple-doubles. Expect Henry to jump up in the rankings his senior season, this kid could turn out to be a very exciting prospect.

The Man From Sudan

Many reports came out this weekend of a "mystery" big man on campus. I am not 100% positive who this person was, but I have been catching wind of a new target, who may or may not have been this "mystery" big man.

John Riek, a native of Sudan, has suddenly popped up on UK's radar and many other schools as well. Riek attends Our Savior New American High School, and has recently been listed as one of the top five players in the 2008 class, ranking second in his position. Riek is a 7'2" 240 pound man-child, a pure dominant center. He is exceptionally gifted on the defensive side and is an excellent rebounder. Riek's wing-span is incredibly long and his hand strength makes it almost impossible to take the ball away from him upon rebounding. Improvement in post play is needed, and Riek seems to dribble unnecessarily at times.

UK has been in contact with Riek, and are listed in his top schools. It is unknown whether Riek has visited UK or when exactly he will visit. Riek is relatively new and not much is known about him, but I will deliver more information when it becomes available.

Jurassic Park 4

The production team for Jurassic Park 4 is now in the casting stages in its development towards a new movie. Laura Dern will be returning for the fourth installment, but Sam Neill will not. That's a bummer.

The plot details were originally thought to be about a secret island/mountain in the Pacific. The island supposedly contains U.S. military who are sent to train dinosaurs how to carry weapons and fight in battle. Crazy huh?

Well the ACTUAL plot details have OFFICIALLY been released. The fourth installment will be about a team of U.S. soldiers sent to a secret island/mountain to train dinosaurs how to use giant guns and fight in war battles.

I'm dead serious.

Facility, Stripes, and Singleton

The Herald-Leader has posted a picture tour of UK's the new basketball practice facility. The new facility was open to the public Friday, Aug. 10 from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 11 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The facility looks nothing short of amazing! I can't see how a recruit would even second guess going to UK after seeing it. To take the picture tour CLICK HERE.

The University of Kentucky's football team was introduced to a new training method recently. White stripes were placed down the center of the defensive players helmets in hopes of improving the player's ball awareness. The white stripes act as an aid in seeing exactly where the players are looking during practice drills. If the player isn't looking in the correct spot, the coach can easily spot the mistake by looking where the ball is and where the white stripe is facing.

Chris Singleton recently told a number of interviewers his current list of top schools. Singleton listed seven schools, including UK at number five. The 6'8" 210 pound small forward plans on visiting UK sometime this fall, and expects UK to move up on his list after the visit. A lot of speculation points towards Singleton as being UK's biggest target, but many believe Tennessee still has the upper hand.

UK Has Eyes On Kevin Jones

With the recent struggles of finding a big man, the coaching staff at UK hopes they can stay in the race of what is left in the 2008 class. Kevin Jones, a 6'8" 210 pound power forward out of Mount Vernon, New York, still lists UK as one of his top schools. Jones has good length, is a skilled rebounder, and quickly gets the ball to open men. Even though Jones lacks in overall size, and needs to work on his scoring abilities, he is still considered by many to be a top-20 prospect at his position. He is listed as a four-star recruit across the board, and is also listed number 79 in Rivals.com's top-150 of 2008. Kevin's list of schools also includes Indiana, Ohio State, West Virginia, Kansas, and Syracuse.

Pictures From The 2007 Bengal's Training Camp

These are pictures from the 2007 Bengal's Black/Orange mock game. I took these pictures up until the third quarter, the second team was beating the first team when I left. Palmer and Houshmanzadeh didn't play, which was a let down. Chad Johnson only got one pass thrown to him (which he caught) while I was there. The most impressive players were probably Kenny Irons, he has quick moves and explosive speed, and Chris Henry, who will unfortunately miss 8 games this year.

UK Eyes Another Big Man

With all the big-men going elsewhere, a lot of people are starting to worry. Have no fear, a lot of big men are still available. About a month ago I posted a blog article about J'Mison Morgan a.k.a. Bobo. No one seems to notice this kid, and no one seems to talk about him much. He IS on UK's radar and he DOES have UK on his list. Arizona, Kansas, UCLA, and Alabama are also listed as interests. Morgan is a 6'10" 275 lb. center from Texas, Billy's old stomping grounds, and is in the 2008 class. Morgan was also recruited by Gillispie when Gillispie was at Texas A&M. He is ranked as a 4-star recruit, and comes in at number 7 in his position on Rivals.com, and ranking 39th overall. Scout.com also ranks him as a 4-star recruit, and also ranks him 7th in his position, but has him ranked 35th overall. I've been told to keep an eye on this kid...

2007 Fantasy Football Preview :: Wide Receivers

When it comes to creativity and showmanship there is not another position in sports that stirs up crowds like the NFL Wide Receivers. That being said, they are mostly comprized of pre-madonnas and cry babies, but perhaps that's why they draw alot of attention. While wide receivers are probably the most overrated position in FFL, they sure do count. Because if you have the right ones they can win your weekly matchups. The thing is that most of them will only see the ball 5-10 times a game, so taking them too early can cost your team in the longrun. Here are the guys we love to hate:

1. Steve Smith: If only this guy was as tall as some of the other wide outs in the league.(Yikes) He can outleap and outrun most anyone in the league. Last season after missing all of the preseason and the first two games of the regular season he came on to finish in the the Top 10 in receiving yards. Actually he finished only 200 yds behind the league leader. Smith is who Chad Johnson and T.O. look to for celebration advice so look for Smith to be healthy and productive in 2007. The Panthers did draft Dwayne Jarrett, but they lost Keyshawn Johnson to retirement, so Super Steve's looks may increase with a rookie at Carolina's 2 Spot.

2. Torry Holt: Assuming his offseason surgery went well and he is fully recovered look for Holt to continue his reign of terror on those weak NFC West DBs. Holt will once again be Bulger's go to guy in the passing game, but St. Louis did add a couple of very capable weapons. WR Drew Bennett and TE Randy McMicheal. Torry may not get the same number of looks, but he will be relied upon once again.

3. Chad Johnson: Ocho Cinco lead the league in receiving yards in 2007 and that was while Carson Palmer kinda eased back into action from his offseason knee surgery from 2005. All those yards are nice but he was not in the top 10 in TDs...like his teammate TJ Houshmandzadeh was. He is the man in Who Dey Nation, but he also gets the majority of the double teams. He will gets his looks but may not post the number of weekly points that you'd expect.

4. Reggie Wayne: Welcome to "Wayne Manor", or "Wayne's World" or whatever movie slogan you wanna use with Reggie's name. Wayne has the best hands of any receiver on the Colts. While he will split his looks with Pro Bowler Marvin Harrison, expect bigger things from the younger of the two Indy Wide Outs.

5. Marvin Harrison: It would not be wrong to take Harrison ahead of his teammate, Wayne. He has a very solid/proven track record with the league's best Quarterback. He was also second amongst wide receivers in total yards and TD receptions in 2006. While Wayne has the better hands, Wayne is the better route runner. He's as solid a pick as there is at this position.

6. Larry Fitzgerald: This pick soley relies on the developement of QB Matt Leinart. If Leinart improves than perhaps we should've ranked Fitzgerald a little higher on the WR Board. However, even if the Golden Boy...Leinart... doesn't get much better Fitz will still get his usual touches. In 13 games last season he had over 950 yards and 6 TDs. Problem is...like Chad Johnson...he has a very capable WR to split looks with in Anquan Boldin. But in this case he has shown that when he's on the field he gets more looks than his counterpart. If healthy he'll produce.

7. Terrell Owens: "The Player" will have to adjust to a new offense in Big D this year, but God knows that "The Player" will get his touches or "The Player" will tear this team apart. Cowboy coach Wade Phillips will need some thick skin to deal with "Two", but he'll make sure he keeps Owens happy. Owens is coming off of a year where he lead all WRs in TDs, but also lead them in Drops. It will be interesting in Dallas in 2007.

8. Donald Driver: Driver will once again be Favre's favorite target. With Ahman Green and the Packer Running Game suiting up in Houston this year look for more passes to be thrown at Lambeau Field. Driver has the chance to truely perfect the Lambeau Leap in 2007 due to the fact that his looks and touches will probably have to increase for the Pack to be successful.

9. Marques Colston: This was the steal of the 2006 NFL and Fantasy Football Draft. Last year the Pride of Hofstra was slotted in as the starting TE in the Saints lineup, but now, with Joe Horn moving to Atlanta, Colston has been moved out to WR to fill the void left by Horn. This should work out fine because of Colston's hands, but he will need to work on his route running to duplicate his production of 2006.

10. Roy Williams: "The Legend" put up some big numbers in 2006. He was able to do so because the Lions had no choice but to throw the ball to try and get back into most of their 2006 games. Many doubters still question Roy's hands, but there is no doubt he can get open. With Kitna going out on a limb and predicting a 10 win season in the D. Those wins will have to come through the passing game, but don't forget that the Lions drafted the best offensive talent in the draft in WR Calvin Johnson. Johnson could take some of the looks away from Roy in 2007.

11. TJ Houshmandzadeh: TJ is the Bengals number 2 guy, but he gets alot of looks due to the fact that Chad Johnson gets double teamed so often. He led the team in TD Receptions in 2006, but just like his teammate he also broke the 1000 yard mark. He's solid seeing how the Bengals offense loves to spread the ball around.

12. Andre Johnson: Johnson was the only player in the NFL with more than 100 receptions in 2006. His yardage total wasn't so high because Texans QBs had to get rid of the ball so quickly due to the horrible O-Line in Houston. The Texans did show signs of improvement, but then they got rid of QB David Carr and brought in Matt Schaub from Atlanta to take the helm. It is a new beginning in Houston for 2007, but Andre is the best option the Texans have at WR. Look for his touches to be high once again.

13. Anquan Boldin: Boldin is the Arizona deep threat. He is big and fast and has that ability to go get the ball rather than have it land in his lap. He was having a great year while Fitzgerald was dealing with his injury, but once Fitzgerald came back Boldin's numbers took a hit. It seemd as though Leinart may have been favoring Fitzgerald a little bit. Boldin is still an elite receiver, but I would look for the trend of Leinart to Fitzgerald to continue.

14. Lee Evans: Well, this guy is really hit or miss, but when Losman can find him he has the ability to post some monster numbers. He had nearly 1300 yds. last season, but only three games with more than 100 yds. (One of which he had 265) Evans is the only WR worth mentioning in Buffalo yet again, and with a rookie running back look for the passing game to get used more often to take some of the pressure off of Marshawn Lynch. Evans may be the sleeper pick at this position.

15. Randy Moss: I honestly would be scared to have Moss on my team, but it seems like Moss and Brady are meshing quite well. Perhaps the Randy Ratio will once again be in effect for 2007 in New England. Big time potential or big time flop? Time will tell.

16. Javon Walker: Ashley Lelie is gone, so it is now just Rod Smith and Walker for QB Jay Cutler to choose from, and Smith is nearly 50. Walker will be the main threat in the Denver passing attack in 2007, and if Cutler can continue to grow than Walker may be set for a monster year.

17. Hines Ward: As mentioned in each of the first two Fantasy Articles...the Steelers' new coaching staff is looking to spread the ball around more this year. This could mean big things for Hines as long as his quarterback can prove he's truely back and mentally ready to perform. Hines is the heart and soul of the Pittsburgh offense so he'll be ready regardless of how his QBs mind is.

18. Deion Branch: With Darrell Jackson going to San Fran this will open the door for the former Super Bowl MVP to thrive in Seattle. With Branch not getting signed by the Seahawks until after all of training camp and the preseason it was unfair to expect big things from Branch in 2006. Now that he has learned the system he should be in line for a solid comeback season.

19. Plaxico Burress: Plax better be ready to give it his all every play this year, because there is no longer a running game in New York. The loss of Tiki Barber will place the scoring solely on the production of Eli Manning and the passing game in 2007.

20. Darrell Jackson: He had developed a case of the drops in the climatic northwest the last couple of seasons. Now that he is down in the friendlier confines of San Francisco maybe his hands will thaw out and become useable again. He did manage to catch 10 TDs last year in only 13 games for Seattle. We'll see if Alex Smith can get him the ball like Hasselbeck did.

21. Chris Chambers: Now that South Beach has a quarterback, perhaps Chambers will have his coming out party. Chambers has all the ability in the world but he's never really had anyone to get him the ball. Hopefully Trent Green's aging arm will be able to get him the ball in 2007.

22. Calvin Johnson: This guy was "the best offensive talent" in the NFL Draft this past offseason. He is big and fast and similar to a Terrell Owens type of player. The nice thing is that he doesn't seem to have Owens' baggage. If the Lions are gonna make it to 10 wins in 2007 they will do it through the air, so look for him to take some touches away from Roy Williams and come through in his rookie campaign.

23. Reggie Brown: Assuming McNabb will be a go for the regular season, look for Brown to be the main guy in the Philly WR Corps. Aside from TE LJ Smith he is the only real target to choose from that doesn't line up behind center.(Westbrook) If McNabb's healthy Brown will get his opportunities to excel.

There is a 3 Horse Race for this final spot. Joey Galloway (T; Braylon Edwards (Clv); Laveranues Coles (NYJ). These guys all get about the same number of looks and put up similar stats. If I had to choose, I may side with Galloway due to the fact that QB Jeff Garcia will be running the Tampa Bay Offense in 2007. It will be the first time in TB that Galloway will have someone that can actually get him the ball.

UK Gets Visit From 6'10" Center

Orlando Allen visited Kentucky yesterday. Allen is a Junior College player, he currently favors Cincinnati, but was apparently extremely impressed with his visit to UK. Allen is big and smart, a 3.4 GPA, but lacks in athleticism. Rivals.com ranks him as a 3-star prospect, and Scout.com ranks him as a measly 2-star prospect. I would immediately think NO, but we desperately need big men, and with Czyz, Woods, and possibly Zeller off our radar we may need him. Let us not forget that Greg Monroe is visiting UK this month!

2007 Fantasy Football Preview :: Tight Ends

In reality there are only about 10 Tight Ends that you really want to take your time and consider for your draft. Those guys are somewhat obvious. If I try to tell you that this is a really important part of your team than I'd be lying, but you have to have one in your lineups, and the good ones can surprise you and really post some numbers from time to time.

1. Antonio Gates: Gates' athletic ability gives him an advantage over any LB that tries to slow him down and his size gives him an advantage against Safeties and the occasional DB that has to cover him. He is a former college hoopster and can leap with the best of them. He has big hands and can catch virtually anything thrown his way, and with his QB being somewhat young and raw, Gates gets looked to alot. He is option #2 behind Tomlinson in the San Diego offense so he will continue to get used frequently.

2. Kellen Winslow: This positioning of Winslow may stun some people, but when he's healthy and being the "Soldier" that he claims he is than he is as gifted as anybody. He had his delayed coming out party in 2006 thanks to injury setbacks in his first 2 seasons. Last year he led all TEs (Including Colston) in receptions. If only the Browns could put drives together he would've been effective in the Red Zone as well. With the addition of Jamal Lewis perhaps this will make the passing game more effective in 2007. Don't forget that the Browns did draft Some QB named Brady Quinn out of Notre Dame...if the Browns stumble out of the gate in 07, Quinn may be inserted as the starter. Normally rookie QBs don't fair too well, so keep that in mind.

3. Tony Gonzalez: Gonzalez was the late 1990s version of Antonio Gates. Gonzalez was all that Gates is now. However, Gonzalez is older and with the potentially chaotic QB situation brewing in KC, I cannot see anyone doing well consistantly in the Chiefs passing attack. I love his talents, but don't like his supporting cast for 2007.

4. Vernon Davis: Davis lasted a quarter into his rookie season in 2006 before breaking his foot.In that first quarter you did get a glimpse why he was the 49ers first choice in their draft. He scored a TD and then was on a breakaway to score again before he got hit on his ankle (Which broke) and then he fumbled the ball to the Cardinals. Seemingly his season was over, but he did manage to make it back and play in the team's final 4 games. In 4.25 games he posted some very respectable numbers comprising of 20 catches and 3 TDs. Now that he's healthy the young 49ers will be looking to improve in 2007.

5. Todd Heap: Old reliable! This guy is just a workhorse. He just wears down his opponents and before you realize it he'll have caught 5 balls for 65 yds and a TD. He outwills his competition, and that is why Heap is always able to put together solid seasons. With Steve McNair's arm becoming less of a deep threat, that should mean that Heap will see the ball plenty once again in 2007.

6. Jeremy Shockey: Shockey is the TE Media Darling...if you like hearing from the guy that is always complaining about not getting looked at when he's wide open or when he has a complaint about how the team is being run. Shockey is a great talent at this position, but this year he will have to actually do something to make his words hold up. The passing game is all that the Giants have for 2007, so look for Shockey to get noticed by Eli more often this year.

7. Eric Johnson: Last year in SF Johnson just fell out of favor with the coaching staff. He is more of a pass catching TE than he's given credit for, and the 49ers primarily used him as a blocker in 06. Now he is in New Orleans, playing the same position that Colston played last year and flourished in. I would look for some big things out of Eric Johnson and the Saints in 2007. Sleeper Pick!!

8. Alge Crumpler: The apparent loss of Michael Vick will hurt every player associated with th7e Falcons. They are gonna have to use a back up in the likes of Joey Harrington to try and guide the offense under new coach Bobby Petrino. This will more than likely take some time to develop so look for Crumpler's numbers to take a dive until everyone gets used to the new scheme being added by the new coaching staff.

9. Randy McMichael: Now that McMichael is out of the QB graveyard that is South Beach, Miami. He should be able to get used the way he's always wanted in a passing offense that is St Louis. The Rams have been needing a big TE to rely on in the middle of the field to take some of the pressure off of I. Bruce and T. Holt. Look for a solid year from Randy against the weaker defenses in the NFC West.

10. Chris Cooley: This is the big change from my original post. I had Cooley 16th in the original, but there is no way you can leave this guy out of the rankings. Cooley ranked in the top 8 amongst TEs in TDs, Receptions and total yards. I am not sure he'll be able to duplicate that for Washington in 2007, but you have to include him on this list.

11. L J Smith: This is the right spot for him assuming that McNabb is also in the Philadelphia lineup. Smith seemingly has a great repoir with McNabb and his stats seem to increase when they are on the field together. Solid pick as long as McNabb is playing.

12. Benjamin Watson: Watson essentially took a stronghold on this position during the Patriots' run last season. Because of that Daniel Graham has been banished to play in Denver, leaving Watson as the one and only TE in New England for 2007. He doesn't get the opportunity for many catches per game, but the ones he does catch are usually meaningful. His production in the Red Zone will probably take a hit thanks to the arrival of the Randy Ratio, but he'll still be a useful player in the Patriots system.

13. Jason Witten: The Cowboys have some pretty good weapons, and Witten is the icing on the cake. He is a tough cover for defenses, because most teams are so focused on T.O. and Terry Glenn that they tend to forget about Witten. He had a slow start in 2006, but with the new staff the TE position has proven to be quite succesful in other stops for Wade Phillips and his staff.

14. Heath Miller: In 2005, both Heath and Big Ben's rookie seasons, Miller proved to be all that the Steelers thought he was. With the struggles of Reothlisberger in 2006 Heath's numbers came back down to Earth. As documented, the new coaching staff in Pittsburgh wants to spread the ball around more and that can only be beneficial for Miller's sats in 2007. He is Big Ben's safety valve and he can make things happen with his legs and shiftiness for a guy his size.

15. Daniel Graham: Until last season in NE, Graham was a consistant weapon in the Patriots system. Either he was under used,or he fell out of favor amongst the NE coaching staff in 2006, but either way his stats took a hit because of it. With a move to a team that desperately needed help at TE in the Broncos expect Graham to re-emurge as a solid play for 2007. Cutler sorely needed a safety valve in 2006, and now he's got one. Look for Jake to use him frequently.

If you need help picking a defense or a kicker just put all the teams in a hat and pray you don't get K Grammatica or Def. Arizona. Nah, seriously though...for kickers try to take one that plays for a team with a good offense. And for Defenses, if you cannot get Balt., NE, SD, Chi., or Pitt. it really turns into a crap shoot. I generally just add and drop for a defense all year if I didn't manage to get an elite one. Good Luck to Everyone this Season... unless you're in my league of course.

2007 Fantasy Football Preview :: Running Backs

Here we go!...If you want to win your Fantasy league than pay attention. This is the position that wins Fantasy Football Leagues. Say what you want but the fact is that these guys do all of the heavy lifting for their real teams, so expect nothing less out of this position on your FFL Team. They run, they catch, and they score...problem is that they are in short supply and you must have two of them to fill your starting rosters...not even figuring what you need for backups. Let's get to examining the Juiced News' Top 24 Running Backs:

1. LaDainian Tomlinson: When he's not rushing for the single season TD Record he's catching for TDs...and occasionally throwing for them, too! He is the most versatile athlete in the NFL and he gets to play in an offense that is totally designed around him. He will get the ball and he will lead virtually every Fantasy Football League in points barring injury. He will also go #1 in your draft so if you don't have the first pick just skip on down the list.

2. Steven Jackson: After waiting for his chance behind former League MVP Marshall Faulk, Jackson was cast into the starting lineup in 2006. Let's just say he was solid.
He posted over 1500 yds, which ranked in the top five, and then he added 90 receptions and racked up another 800 yds receiving. All in all, he actually had more total yards than Tomlinson in 2006. There are no signs of him slowing down in 2007 so look for him to duplicate his numbers from a year ago.
3. Larry Johnson: Diamonds are forever...LJ's TD celebration is called the Diamond Cutter (Shown Here). He is the Kansas City offense: noted by his league leading number of rush attempts in 2006. However, there may be a QB controversy brewing in Arrowhead Stadium between D. Huard and B. Croyle. The Chiefs parted ways with Trent Green for what seemed to be Huard, but rumor has it that the coaching staff is very high on Croyle's potential. Johnson will get touches regardless, but if Croyle gets the nod look for Johnson's touches to increase. No one wants to put all the pressure on a young, developing QB.

4. Shaun Alexander: This is a toss up for the #4 spot, but I am gonna give this former MVP the benefit of the doubt and trust that he will return from his 2006 injury riddled campaign and put up numbers closer in compairison to his 2005 season. Look for a rebound year for the "Pride of Boone Co., KY".

5. Joseph Addai: The LSU product served as part of the Championship Indianapolis Colts backfield in 2006. He posted very solid numbers for a rookie and that was with Dominick Rhodes taking half of his carries. Even while splitting carries he cracked the 1000 yd. mark. Now that he's the only RB in Indy, look for those numbers to reach new levels in 2007.

6. Frank Gore: Gore shocked the world with his emergance in 2006. He was without a doubt the steal of most drafts at the RB position. Now that teams know what they are up against can he repeat his 2006 season? I am guessing no, and based on his constant injury problems when he was with the Miami Hurricanes in college I do not want to bank my first round selection on a guy that really is unproven. With all that said, if healthy, he will have the opportunity to once again be the man in San Fran.

7. Brian Westbrook: The poor man's Tomlinson. Westbrook does it all for the Eagles. He's been doing it for years. Problem is that he has a tendancy to get knicked up due to his lack of size. Normally these injuries do not knock B-Dub out for long periods of time, but you can bank on one popping up at somepoint. He will rush for over 1000 yds, and he will be effective out of the backfield catching passes...no matter who is quarterbacking the team.

8. Rudi Johnson: Run Rudi Run! That's what they chant in the Jungle, so that's what he does. He ran for 1300 yds in 2006. He doesn't really get involved in the passing attack, but he is good around the goal line and has the ability to outrun most defenders. Solid pick.

9. Willie Parker: "Fast" Willie will have a great opportunity with the new coaching staff in Pittsburgh. Coach Nolan has already said that he wants to spread the ball around more than previous Steeler teams. This plays right to the strengths of Parker. He is a much better runner in space rather than between the tackles, so if Big Ben can get him the ball in stride look out!

10. Travis Henry: My Sleeper pick. Henry managed to put up some very strong numbers in a stagnant offense in Tennessee. Now he gets to go run behind the best offensive line in the league...especially in regards to run blocking. He posted over 1200 yds for the Titans in 2006 so look for that number to increase for Denver. He'll have the Mile High Salute down in no time.

11. Reggie Bush: I would rank him higher if he wasn't still splitting carries with D. McAllister. He has the ability to become a top 5 back, but his numbers won't say that until he quits splitting carries. He will catch alot of balls, and like W. Parker, once Bush gets in space he'll be looking at defenders in his rear view mirror. Great Keeper League Pick...depending on the league format.

12. Willis McGahee: The move to Baltimore will be very good for Willis. Instead of having to run against N.E. and Mia. twice a year, now he gets to run against Clev. and Cincy. twice. This should due wonders for his legs and his stats. It was tough sledding for him in Buffalo, but he still managed to gain over 1000 yds of offense in only 14 games in 2006.

13. Clinton Portis: Another player from "Running Back U", aka Miami University. Portis has been injury plagued for a couple of seasons now, but when he's healthy he has Pro Bowl ability. If he's not healthy you could wind up with "The Mad Scientist; Southeast Jerome; Dr. I Don't Know; Sherriff Gonna Getcha; Dolla Bill; Reverand Gonna Change; Kid Bro Sweets; Inspector 2-2; Angel of S.E. Jerome; Dolamite Jenkins or Coach Janky Spanky". These were the numerous characters that Portis portrayed in his 2006 press conferences when he was unable to play on the field. If you take Portis be sure to lock up Ladell Betts as well.

14. Ronnie Brown: Ronnie was hampered on and off all season by hand and ankle injuries. He played through them for awhile, but eventually wound up missing time and whn he came back to the lineup he was splitting carries with backup Sammy Morris. Morris is now a Patriot leaving Brown to due all the heavy lifting by himself. It will be nice having a QB in South Beach which should take some of the focus off of Ronnie in 2007. Look for numbers more like his 2005 rookie campaign.

15. Edgerrin James: Edge found out the hard way that money doesn't always lead to happiness. Edge got paid in 2006 by moving to Arizona, but his stats took a beating. The line has been upgraded via the draft and some free agent signings. Perhaps this could be the year for Edgerrin to soar in the desert.

16. Lawrence Maroney: Sleeper Pick #2. While splitting carries with the aging Corey Dillon as a rookie in 2006 Maroney still managed solid, but not eye popping numbers. Look for his touches to increase in 2007. He has the fresh legs that the N.E. offense needs and with the additions this team made at WR in the offseason, that should free up some room for the running game to run through.

17. Thomas Jones: He was the better half of the NFC Champion Bears' running game in 2006, but Chicago felt comfortable enough with Cedric Benson to let Jones go to the Jets. The Jets have been needing someone to step in since Curtis Martin went down in 2005. Now they've got someone, but can Man-genious actually use him? Time will tell, but Jones landed in a tough division for rushing the football. (Ask Willis McGahee)

18. Carnell Williams: Gruden's Cadillac will have to be tuned up and ready to go in order for coach Gruden to keep his job in 2007. The addition of former Pro Bowler Jeff Garcia at QB will help the entire offense and hopefully take some pressure off of Cadillac as well.

19. Marshawn Lynch: This is the rookie that may have the best chance to succeed right away.He landed in Buffalo and he has Zero/none/nada competition for his spot in the starting lineup. I would not expect big things as far as eye popping numbers, but he will get all the touches for the Bills.

20. Cedric Benson: The Bears waived goodbye to Thomas Jones because of Benson. Hopefully that will pay off for Chicago. Benson has shown the ability to be a tough runner, but he's also shown that sometimes he's just not interested in what's going on. He'd better be focused in 2007 because the Bear's season is riding on him.

21. Jamal Lewis: Some say he's washed up, but the fact is that he is still better than anything Cleveland had in 2006. With the Browns' O-Line addition of "Big" Joe Thomas things could get better for the Cleveland running game. Welcome to the Dogg Pound, Jamal.

22. Maurice Jones-Drew: One year in the league and he's already been inducted into ESPN's Fantasy Football Hall of Fame. He did come out of nowhere to be the Jaguars best option at running back in 2006, but he will still be splitting time with Fred Taylor. Look for him to get the brunt of the touches near the goal line due to his unique size and shape.

23. Ahman Green: Green was traded to Houston this offseason, and scene by the Texans as a sizeable upgrade. Problem is that Houston still doesn't have an O-line to speak of, and they also have a new starting QB...one that doesn't have much experience as a starter in the NFL...Uh-Oh! While this team could be exciting if all goes well, more than likely they won't be as improved as they need to be to compete. Tough spot for Ahman at this stage of his career...similar to Emmitt Smith in Arizona. (Whince)

24. Chester Taylor: Taylor would be a good running back for most NFL teams. He had a good 2006 season. But the Vikings did draft the second best offensive player in the draft in Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson. Peterson will be involved in the offense, so look for Taylor's value to depreciate in 2007. If you take Taylor, try to lock him up with Peterson. There may be a switch atop the depth chart in Minnesota by midseason.

There you have it. The Running Backs worth talking about. There are a few others that could've been thrown on here, but the ones listed are probably your safest plays. Guys like Deuce McAllister; Warrick Dunn (Currently injured) and Jerious Norwood; Kevin Jones and Tatum Bell; Julius Jones and Marion Barber III; Deshaun Foster and his backup DeAngelo Williams. While these guys are all capable, they are all splitting carries or they are in a situation where the starter has not even been decided upon.

2007 Fantasy Football Preview :: Quarterbacks

SportsRazz.com would like to introduce it's newest blog partnership with Juiced News with a preview of this year's top fantasy quarterbacks.

1. Peyton Manning: He is the best field general in the NFL. He has numerous targets to choose from and he generally hits them. Can he lead the Colts to a repeat Title in 2007?...Only time will tell.

2. Carson Palmer: It almost seemed as though 2006 was a test year for the Bengal QB's surgically repaired knee. He made it through the year and was really the only overachiever (with the bad knee and all) on the Cincinnati roster for 2006. The team managed an 8-8 record last year, so look for the record and Palmer's knee to both improve and be ready for 2007.

3. Tom Brady: Last year Brady put up typical Brady numbers. He also was able to this with no one in his receiving core. This offseason the Pats added some potential big play guys in Randy Moss and D. Stallworth for Tom Brady to throw to, so you have to figure that this could be an explosive year for the New England offense, assuming everyone stays healthy.

4. Drew Brees: In 2006 Brees put up MVP caliber numbers in his first year with the Saints. It was a crazy year in New Orleans as well, still dealing with the aftermath from Hurricane Katrina and all. Alot of Brees' time was spent helping the community, but many say that getting New Orleans to the Playoffs was his greatest accomplishment for 2006. There has been a bit of a shake-up in the lineup/roster for 2007, but the core pieces are still surrounding Brees. Look for another nice year from the undersized QB.

5. Marc Bulger: Playing in the NFC West never helps you get noticed, but Bulger posted some really nice numbers in 2006. Look for the offense in St. Louis to post similar...if not better...numbers in 2007.

6. Donovan McNabb: When he is healthy he is the number 2 fantasy quarterback behind Mr. Manning. However, the injury bug has been a problem for McNabb in recent years and as of today he has been quoted as saying he's only about "70%" in his recovery from offseason surgery. If taken in the right round of your draft he could be a potential steal, but more than likely you'll have to take him early to get him...Be cautious with this pick.

7. Matt Hasselbeck: Seattle lost some weapons on offense this offseason, but fortunately they were able to bring in a quality TE and they were already deep enough at WR to just insert a backup to fill the void left by the departure of Darrell Jackson. Look for a return to form for Hasselbeck who played much of last season with an injury. Assuming he's healed look for numbers similar to his 2005 campaign.

8. Matt Leinart: This may shock some people, but the "Golden Boy" has similar weapons as QBs P. Manning and C. Palmer. In his rookie year he took his lumps, but hopefully those lumps will rapidly transform to experience and he can grow from them and hit his elite group of wide receivers more often in 2007. Maybe a little high on the board, but with the weapons he's got you know he's got the potential to be very good.

9. Tony Romo: Assuming the heartache caused by his butterfingers has worn off look for Romo to get "the Player" the ball on a consistant basis. New Coach Wade Phillips may limit his attempts due to the running-based offense Phillips has shown he likes to run on his teams in the past. Romo will be steady in 07.

10. Vince Young: I have no idea how he will get you fantasy points...none. But I do know that he will get you points. The guy simply wills his teams to victory, this going all the way back to his college days at Texas. The Titans lost Travis Henry, but did manage to get RB Chris Henry in the Draft. Young will probably have to throw more this season(EEEEK), but he has two very solid TEs that can catch the ball as his security blanket. Oh yeah...he can also run.
11. Jon Kitna: The fact that I am putting Kitna on my list kinda stings my conscience, but the guy will have no choice but to throw the ball in 2007. The Lions drafted the best offensive talent in WR Calvin Johnson, and with Roy Williams still in the "D" you know the pigskin's gonna have to be in the air alot to appease both these big talents. The problem with Kitna is he has a knack for hitting defensive backs too.

12. Brett Favre: This old dog better start learning some new tricks. I have always been a Favre fan, but with Green Bay giving away their running game to Houston (Ahman Green) defenses will be able to focus on Favre all year. If there was ever someone I would want to see on HGH it would be this guy, because he is gonna need it.

13. Phillip Rivers: Rivers has not been asked to do too much in his short career in SD. With Tomilinson in the backfield why would you force the action on a young QB? When he has been asked to make some plays he has been efficient enough to land him here on my list.

14. Ben Roethlisberger: The new coaching staff in the Steel City has come out and said that they will be looking to spread the ball around more than past Steeler teams. In Big Ben's rookie year he showed that he can put the ball wherever he wants. Last year, after dealing with his nearly fatal motorcycle accident, he looked a little shakey when under pressure. Hopefully the cobwebs will be wiped away and the Roethlisberger of 2005 will return to form for 2007.

15. Eli Manning: Okay little bro...the time has come for you to live up to the hype. Unfortunatley for you, you no longer have Tiki Barber to bail you out when you're in trouble. But with no Tiki that pretty much means there is no running game, so you are gonna get the opportunity light some teams up.

NOTE: Michael Vick was in my original Top 10, but like Nike, Reebok and the Falcons I had no choice but to pull him from my list due to the uncertainty surrounding Vick's FEDERAL Indictment.

Bengals Primed To Win It All

“It's not here, it's here ... but that much is so big,” Lewis said, spreading the finger tips of his index finger and thumb barely apart. “But we've seen the other side. We know what it looks and feels like. A lot of teams go through that. We had the book tour last year.”“We have good enough players and great coaches. We have everything we need to be one of the best teams, if not the best team, in the NFL and that's our goal,” Lewis said, responding to a comparison question of this year's team and last year's team. “There's no reason why we can't. We have to understand that.”

“We underachieved because we didn't make plays when we were in position to make them. There are 25, 26 teams I would imagine that people would say the same thing and we're certainly one of them.”

“You see teams that win the Super Bowl and then the next year they win five games because a lot of people think they had a bigger hand in why the team was successful than they had,” Lewis said. “We had the book tour last year. It all hurts you. It's all people talked about was going to the Super Bowl. They didn't talk about winning the division, beating Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cleveland. Everybody was going to Miami. Hell, we've got to beat those people.”
“Our best players have to play well at the end of the year,” Lewis said. “If you want to be looked upon as one of the great players in the National Football League, it's what you do to finish the season is what people remember you by. It's another lesson. You don't want to let history repeat itself.”

2007 Kentucky Football Preview

The Wildcats finally won a bowl game in 2006, after missing the post-season for six straight years. Before winning the Music City Bowl the Wildcats went 7- 5 during regular season play. The Wildcats finished a surprising season with an 8-5 record, which also included a much celebrated win at home over the Georgia Bulldogs. With 17 returning starters and a top-25 spot going in to next season, can the Wildcats do it again? Can they do better? Or was last season a flash in the pan?

Defense: The Wildcats must improve its defense in 2007, which was ranked as one of the worst in the nation last season. The defense gave up 100 yards more per game than any other SEC team, ranking them last in the conference. Kentucky’s new defensive coordinator, Steve Brown, hopes to turn around the defense. Possibly the biggest defensive return is Wesley Woodyard, who had 122 tackles last season, which ranked him second in the SEC. Myron Pryor and Jeremy Jarmon return as the team's sack leaders. The Wildcat’s leader in interceptions, Marcus McClinton, will also be returning.

Offense: With an impressive 63% completion average, 3,515 yards, 31 touchdowns, and only 7 interceptions in the 2006 season, a lot of hype has been centered on returning quarterback Andre Woodson. Woodson is expected to have an even better season this year with key receivers Keenan Burton and Dicky Lyons Jr. returning. The Cats need to improve the running game, which lacked production last season. Rushing leader Rafael Little will return in 2007, Little had 140 carries, 673 yards, and 3 touchdowns last season.

The One-Two Punch

College basketball season is still a long way off, but the emotional buzz surrounding UK's basketball program would make one think it is only a few weeks away. People are literally wishing the summer away, the anticipation is almost nail biting. With less than two months to go, it's almost as if college football is being overlooked.

As if the Legion and Patterson recruiting success wasn't big enough, comes word of the duo's performances in the summer games. Kentucky's coaching staff has been very busy with summer camps, including the highly publicized elite camp, and of course the father/son camp. The team has also been indulging in numerous pick-up games, considering that's about all they're allowed to do. Many have heard, but few have seen. Patrick Patterson is being labeled as a pure dominant force during summer ball, an unstoppable man-child who is easily living up to his hype. Alex Legion's finesse and athleticism has put him at the top of the water cooler talk. It almost sounds like scoring comes too easy for Legion at the camps and pick-up games, his ability to put points on the board is apparently very impressive.

A.J. Stewart and Ramon Harris are being labeled as the "surprises" of next year. Ramon "Razor" Harris has been impressing people for some time now, his athleticism and raw quickness has caused a few more double takes from observers. A.J. Stewart has always been known as an athletic kid, but as a Tubby Smith recruit people haven't been giving him a lot of credit. Mike Williams, the other Tubby recruit, is also a name that some have put in the impressive category.

K.C. Ross-Miller Commits To UK

CatsPause.com has reported that K.C. Ross-Miller has indeed commited to the University of Kentucky. This is big news for UK, as Miller is AAU teammates with Willie Warren and Rotnei Clarke, and may heighten there interest in the Cats. K.C. Ross-Miller is considered a top-5 prospect in the class of 2010.

UK Offers Bobo

J'Mison "Bobo" Morgan has added UK to his list of schools. The 4-star center is listed as one of Rivals.com's "five on the rise", he is listed at 6'10" 275 pounds and is ranked top-10 in his position. Morgan isn't the quickest person on the court, and needs to improve his speed, but is very athletic in the paint and is a strong rebounder. Other schools interested in Morgan's attention are UCLA, Kansas, and Arizona. Kansas is considered the early favorite for Morgan, but UK has offered a scholarship and is now pushing strong for "Bobo".

Tubby Smith Era : All Overrated Team

A week ago I presented a question to the posters on SportsRazz.com, I asked who they thought was the most overrated player in the Tubby Smith era. It took flight, and therefore, I present to you the Tubby Smith Era : All Overrated Team.

Head Coach: Who else... Orlando Tubby Smith. I think this speaks for itself. Tubby seemed to do just enough not to get fired during his tenure, and in doing so, about took the greatest program in the world down with him.

Point Guard: a 6'1" guard from Louisville, Ky #00 Adam Chiles. After much debate with myself I chose Chiles because, if I remember correctly, he was hyped by none other than Tubby himself. As we all know things didn't quite pan out with this kid and he ended up at Murray State and was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Shooting Guard: a 6'4" guard from Macon, Ga #4 Gerald Fitch. Most of you know that this one is personal. Gerald was a good player who tried to hard to be a superstar. Does anyone remember the UAB game? I still to this day say he could have pump faked and taken the layup, but instead he shot a fade away three and we all know what happened. He was also a key member of Team Turmoil. He and fellow Cat Erik Daniels were busted for entering a Lexington bar with fake ideas. Suggestion to all Wildcats under 21... do not try to use a fake to get in a bar. We all know who you are.

Small Forward: a 6'8" forward from Montreal, Quebec #23 Sherry... oops Sheray Thomas. All that we heard about this kid was that he was playing from team Canada and was going to be a dominate force. Well if this was hockey, playing for team Canada would mean something and if by dominate force you mean getting pushed around by everyone he played against, then you would be correct. Now back to reality. Sheray sucked.

Power Forward: a 6'10" forward from Huntsville, Alabama #24 Marvin Stone. Marvin may have been the most hyped on the list. He came in and never got it going for us. He ended up pulling a "Pitino" and going to Louisville and all of the Cat fans cheered. The only thing he had that resembled a basketball player was a Rasheed Wallace birthmark on his head. Good bye Marvin, no one has missed you.

Center: a 7'3" center from the Bronx, New York #21 Shagari Alleyne. Scout.com had him as a can't miss 4 star center. Don't believe me? Here's the link http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=48&p=8&c=1&nid=220251. Wow, can we get our money back for that subscription? Shagari became a side show every time he stepped on the court, which wasn't very often. Sorry for him, he went to class even less. Shagari transferred to Manhattan and then declared for the NBA draft this year. Crazy thing is that he actually signed with an agent. Good luck on draft day Shagari. You'll need it.
Well there you go. I'm sure that this will cause a stir among posters at SportsRazz.com. I would also like to point out that Joe "Black-hole" Crawford is on the watch list to pass Fitch. Ask me about the black-hole thing. Hopefully, Billy Clyde will get us moving in the right direction again and maybe we can get Shagari to raise one of those banner things up with those long arms.

Leave me some feedback and suggestions on my next blog topic.

I'm out.

When Will It Change?

When will it change? Another year of the same awful bullpen and yet again the Reds find themselves falling out of contention. I have loved the Reds since I was old enough to watch and have enjoyed seeing my team win a World Series on my birthday. Problem is I'm tired. I'm tired of year after year of having a payroll that doesn't compete. I'm tired of overpaying middle of the road talent (see Eric Milton and David Weathers). When will it end? Jerry Narron can't send out a different lineup out everyday and expect to win consistently. I think it is time for change, and has been for some time. You know, better late than never, right? So lets start with Narron. He has to go. He doesn't take up for his players on the field when a call doesn't go their way. He can't fill out a lineup card. He sits there looking like he doesn't even care to be there. Next is Ol Wayne. I mean Lopez and Kearns for Bray and Gary Majewski? The worst player in my fantasy league wouldn't make that deal....and better yet the league would probably veto it. This would be nice but I don't see it happening. So onto reality. Adam Dunn has been put on the trading block this week and amazingly someone wants him. Dunn has been a sideshow for years. People just show up to see the enormous Texan hit one 800 ft. and could care less that his average is terrible, his defense is worse and he chases his own strikeout record every year. Lets hope Wayne and his cronies can manage a deal that WILL ACTUALLY IMPROVE something for the Reds. Otherwise pop in your old 1990 highlights and Big Red Machine videos and crack one open until we get to hear Marty saying "This one belongs to the Reds" a little more frequently.

Whether you agree or disagree come talk about the Reds and more at http://www.sportsrazz.com/.

Thanks, I'm out.

MySpace/Facebook Issue

First off, in no way am I sticking up for those who continue to send messages to recruits over MySpace and Facebook, because it’s severely immature. Secondly, I am not siding with those of you who are flipping out over this whole issue, because you’re flat out overreacting. The NCAA has stated that as of right now, MySpace and Facebook are only a part of the game. A lot of people thought the text messaging ban was a little extreme, and I doubt the NCAA is going to go after a petty issue such as internet messages. Frankly, they could be from anyone, and it would take too much man power to address thousands of messages. MySpace has a confidentiality agreement with every user, as to not share private information with any outside parties. This would make it impossible to track down anyone sending MySpace messages. Facebook holds private accounts, and messages sent to people through Facebook, are also confidential. Only the person who sent the message or the person who received the message can identify that person. When it comes to the issue surrounding UK, and the new "blacklist" that was released, it was only UK’s way of covering there own ass. The list consists of such names as RuppCathedral, U to the K, and 17TK17. If you can tell me who these people are, and what school they represent, I will pat you on the back, but I doubt you could deliver me that information. Why would they create a blacklist if it’s not an issue? After the Sutton era, every precaution is a necessary one, trust me. The NCAA is not looking to make an example, and it’s not worth freaking out about. When it comes down to it, if the writers didn’t write about it, you wouldn’t be saying anything. The NCAA has not publicly made this an issue, and all UK did was ask the little weasels to stop sending messages, because it may possibly be hurting our recruiting, not because the NCAA is going to revoke our right to have a basketball team.

The NCAA clearly states: 13.01.4 NCAA Bylaw prohibits a booster from "making in-person, on- or off-campus recruiting contacts, or written or telephonic communications with a prospect or the prospect’s relatives or legal guardians." But what exactly is a booster/athletic representative?

The NCAA states that if you participate in or was a member of an organization promoting UK's athletics program; you make financial contributions to UK’s athletics program or booster club; you assist in the recruitment of prospects; you provide benefits to student-athletes, or has otherwise been involved in promoting UK athletics. Once a person is identified as such a representative, the person retains that identity indefinitely.

So if at some point in your life, you retained an identity as an athletic booster/representative for UK athletics, please stop being immature by sending internet messages to recruits. If you have not been stamped as a booster or representative, which 99% of us have not, calm down, but please stop sending messages to recruits.

If The Rumors Are True

The past few months, for UK fans, have been exhausting. The sudden departure of Tubby Smith left us in frenzy, and the anticipation of UK’s next coaching move was the talk of the town. It single handedly disrupted the Final Four games, and was the main topic on every sports show. When Billy Donovan forwent Kentucky’s offer, UK went and hired Billy Gillispie. A relief? Of course! UK fans, however, haven’t skipped a beat. The Lucas-Patterson, Sanchez-Hamga fiasco has us as anxious as the coaching hire. Let’s just hope we end up as happy with our incoming freshman as we were with Billy Clyde. In only a few days, all of Big Blue Nation can be at peace, and everyone can move forward. That is, if we get what we are wishing for. Gillispie has given us new hope with the strong recruitment of two standout talents, Jai Lucas and Patrick Patterson. Gillispie already signed four-star recruit Alex Legion, and by the end of this coming Wednesday, we might have two more top recruits.

If you listen to the rumors, which are scattered everywhere from message boards to blogs, everyone has a different opinion. When it comes to Jai Lucas, Florida fans think they have him, Kentucky fans think UK might have him, and OK State people, well they don’t know much of anything. Patrick Patterson is a UK favorite, Duke fans say he’s going to UK, Florida people say he’s going to UK, and UK fans, well we don’t want to jinx ourselves now do we? After scanning through several outlets of talk and chatter, the overall consensus is Lucas to Florida, and Patterson to Kentucky.

I’m not saying this is true, because you could easily argue it. Lucas has a strong connection at UK in Coach Cyprien, Cyprien is a family friend of the Lucas’ and a UK decision would seem likely to me. Patterson has said before that he would like to stay close to home, which would seemingly knock Florida out of the picture. Duke is only a few hours away, and Coach Gillispie hasn’t had enough time to really create a strong relationship with Patterson. With this in mind, Patterson to Duke seems likely to me. So their it is, only a few more days. Lucas possibly announces tomorrow at 2:30 p.m., and Patterson announces on Wednesday, let the games begin.
